@alxsim FWIW things are still a lot more functional than mastodon.social was when I first jumped on immediately after Elon closed the deal

@jby Yes but definitely feeling slugish. We are currently using all 25 threads allocated to us for the queued jobs, which never happened before. We definitely are growing. I'll keep an eye out and upgrade our tier if necessary.

@alxsim @jby what's the long term funding situation? Do you need user support? I suspect a lot of people, like me, haven't thought much about the logistics in the mad rush to leap platforms...

@eringiglio @jby
Anyone that feel the capacity to give can through the Open Collective (see docs and about page).
Right now we're good. I'll make announcements in case it becomes scarce.
My hope is that long term societies will chip in instead of users... (well it's nearly the same thing if we encourage users to be societies members in the end).
Thanks for the thought

@alxsim @jby man, one of the things I really love about EEB and have been utterly baffled about as I move into neuroscience space is our professional societies. They're so much less of a presence for my colleagues in neuroscience and I think that's a crying shame.

Fingers crossed for a Server Of Our Own sort of situation: a professional network owned and curated by the scientists it serves is definitely infinitely better than a for profit version, just like with journals.
