 Meanwhile on Linux kernel stories, the maintainer of the Linux ARM32 port just gave up on helping upstream our macsmc driver. When even people who have been part of the kernel community for 25+ years find it too hard and give up, something is very wrong about the process. 8 comments
@marcan do we need a 1M signature petition straight to Linus or what? This is ridiculous. @gigatexal You need to keep a bajillion rules in mind while simultaneously pleasing a half dozen people with conflicting opinions and wading through a slow, painful, and outdated process where tooling is out to publicly screw you if you make a tiny mistake. I've almost gotten used to it. This might be stockholm syndrome... I know how to wrap it up and get it upstream, but the only reason I have the energy left to do this is rmk already dealt with the bulk of the pain, and I happen to have more experience than him with the issue that was the final straw for his attempt. It shouldn't be this way. @marcan i get a feeling kernel is kinda dysfunctional with bad tooling and weird maintainer neurosis. am i off base? |
