For my #admin colleagues: I added a "technical details" section to my blog post about the Free Radical changes I made over the weekend to deal with the increased server load. It has config file code you can copy and paste to help scale your Sidekiq processes to handle more queued tasks.

It's at blog.freeradical.zone/post/sur . Hope this helps someone!

@tek Ha! I thought those were the technical details ;-)

And I was proud I understood some of it.

Humbling experiences are good.

@steve_zeke Think of the first part like Scientific American, written for interested people who want to learn more. The second part is for the other scientists who understand all that and want to replicate the experiment.

@tek ooof. After reading that, my thoughts of setting up a mastodon server are now a bit dashed. I hear Pleroma is less...*waves wildly* all that... Have you any thoughts?

@privacat Pleroma is way easier on resource requirements. In fact, you could easily run it on your laptop as an experiment. I prefer the Mastodon software though. It’s a personal preference for me — Pleroma just looks strange to my eyes. That’s soooo subjective.

@privacat @tek I set up Pleroma this weekend on my host's $2/mo VPS. So far, go good! I'm the only one to blame if something goes wrong.

I'm still using Tusky and having no issues.

I do admit that it isn't the slickest looking UI, but Soapbox looks to do a lot for the front end.
