@kai @jb55 Okay, so some of it I like, there are some glaring issues though: Key management (multiple devices, losing keys), if you publish something it's attributed to you forever cryptographically (no plausible deniability), the relays are supposed to store and forward anything they're sent with no sign-up or e-mail verification so storage and liability issues with spam, relays would still need moderators, except generating a new public key is even simpler than getting a new e-mail address

@Gargron @kai yes I had the same concern about spam. surprised more solutions don't investigate proof of work/hashcash/mkproof for dealing with it.

The relays are not supposed to work without signup, it's only that the signups are out of the protocol. Relays can have a signup page and you paste your pubkey. Some can ask for email, others for money and so on. They can also filter by interests etc.

Then each user has to decide their relay-reading policy: it's safe to fetch notes from someone you follow from any relay, but you might only want note-replies from relays with good spam management.
