@pluralistic I enjoyed this article, but I don't think we need to use govt force to force social media companies to be interoperable.
The article an the article it liked to made me think about the journey from letters to magazines and newspapers to open protocols and back to centrally managed sites like FB.

@cgervasi Yeah, because surely, they will do it on their own, out of pure goodness of their hearts.

Unless you're proposing storming their headquarters on our own, I don't see Zuck or Musk freeing their hostages because that would mean leaving money on the table, and they can't have that.

@pluralistic I enjoyed the article. In my lifetime we've gone from gatekeepers as a fact of life, to no gatekeepers, to a feedback loop that gives us more of the train wrecks we crane our necks at the most. We want to tools to be our own gatekeepers, along the line of RSS readers content published by a variety pf sources we select.
I think (hope) that that train-wreck feedback loop maybe a dying late 10s phenomenon.
