He is quite the famous character. The story of his scholarship is the story of the iron curtain.
He was roundly denied and trounced by the leading maya scholars of the day who believed the glyphs were not phonetic.
So there is extensive scholarship debunking his claims. Which all turned out to be correct, but werenβt fashionable.
