I am today announcing a temporary price reduction, for laptops sold via minifree.org/

These are secure machines with free/opensource BIOS/UEFI replacement "osboot", based on coreboot: osboot.org/

Debian by default but other distro/BSD available on request.

@libreleah reminder that leah is literally the founder of libreboot/osboot so if you are looking for something like this this seems like a really great cop

@libreleah this is such a cool service!

Tbh I'd probably send in my t530 for flashing if I weren't on the other side of the Atlantic :(

@rolenthedeep people send me laptops from abroad all the time, including USA and Canada. got two send-ins here that are done and due to ship back out; neither of them are from the UK. most of my customers are from overseas

@libreleah hi Leah - please forgive this obvious question ... I'm in the UK and expecting that a quote for a Libre X230 at £338 would work out at £406.50 with VAT roughly? Apologies, I'm not used to working out VAT and just wanted to check!

@robertbrook it's automatically calculated, with shipping, when you order; the final confirmation page with payment instructions (also emailed to you) tells you.

yes so: 338 +15 shipping, becomes 353, multiply by 1.2 for VAT and you get a final total of £423.60

@robertbrook i should clarify that the VAT is only charged for shipping to UK. outside of the UK, 0% VAT is applied

@libreleah thank you awesome Internet lady, for adding yet another Cool Thing to my upcoming purchases. Lol.

Very cool project indeed, can’t believe I hadn’t heard of it before now.

Boosted to share.

@libreleah
Getting very tempted by this. I don't _need_ one, but that's beside the point...

@libreleah

Not sure if you got OpenBSD booting on those, but I found success with grub using chainloader +1 for OpenBSD 7.2 -current.
