if it's easy to crack, then people in places where they might not be able to afford a license can use it
this strengthens market penetration and network effect, forcing organizations to use windows - however, they must gte legit licenses since they are at a nonzero legal rsik

@chjara oh yeah, piracy is 200% part of microsoft's strategy, just like adobe's

people using linux at home and then using it at work are much more of a threat to microsoft's bottom line than people pirating windows at home then having to convince their workplace to pay for it
