@yogthos Fun fact: when a cat shows you its stomach, it's very explicitly expecting you to NOT touch it. It's a display of trust that it can expose the most vulnerable part of its body, with direct unprotected access to its internal organs, and still be okay. If you touch its stomach, you directly violate this trust.

@yogthos And for both cats and dogs, if they lie or sleep curled up, it means they are weary of their surroundings as that position protects their vulrnable stomach. If they sleep sprawled out, it means they are comfortable and trusting of their environment. Particularly with dogs, it means they trust YOU to protect them and look out for danger.

@AgreeableLandscape yup, and dogs are much easier to read than cats overall, but that's also part of the fun having a cat. It never gets boring trying to figure out their behaviors.

@yogthos The reason dogs are easier to read is because they have co-evolved with us for way longer. Studies show that they have developed specific behaviours just for communicating with us, and it goes the other way too, they're better at reading our cues than any other animal!

Yogthos

@AgreeableLandscape yeah exactly, it also helps that they're pack animals by nature.
