My character generator now uses Tolkien-elf-names for elves, Tolkien-dwarf names for dwarves, and Tolkien-hobbit-names for halflings (these are the least controversial ones because they are Gothic names): themiddleages.net/people/names

The dwarf names I'm not sure about. I guess I could also just use a list of Old Norse names and it wouldn't feel very different at all, at least to somebody like me who doesn't speak any Norse.

The elf names finally are the weirdest one. My codes uses a prefix list, a word list, and a suffix list, with some combos, and then I try to follow the rules given here:

But in the end, I don't really know what I'm doing.

And here's a link to the page that creates fifty characters for you.
Elves:

Dwarves:

Halfling:

(I still see Merowingian names in there and I don't know whether I should approve or not, or whether I know anything at all, actually.)
Humans (fighters, thieves, magic-users) still use the names from the Zürich birth registry of 2012 I grabbed a long time ago. It works for me. 😃
