Ah yes, CUPS, that integral structural part of Linux where if it doesn't exist, Linux simply is unable to function and be called Linux

@BrodieOnLinux btw it was pointed out that recent versions of steamos do have cups installed, but disabled by default
of nothing
@BrodieOnLinux
>if you activate dev mode
you go to the power menu and one of the options is "desktop mode". It's not even a special dev mode, it's a very visible reboot option.

@BrodieOnLinux cpus isn't installed on vanilla arch by default, is that not a linux distro then..?

@BrodieOnLinux

the kernel is Linux
Valve built their own UI
Now I'm beginning to doubt OP understands DE and WMs properly.

@BrodieOnLinux haters gonna hate . Anyway ѕo if I boot my Arch Linux PC, run Steam and enter Big Picture Mode, it suddenly becomes not Linux… or is it just because I have Steam installed? І՝m confused

@BrodieOnLinux you can also just… install cups?

the X11 thing is a legitimate criticism of SteamOS, but it’s not a legitimate criticism of the idea that it’s linux lol

@BrodieOnLinux Gotta love those profiles with a letter as their profile picture

Anthropy :verified_dragon:

@BrodieOnLinux that moment when Arch is "ChromeOS" because CUPS isn't included (CUPS originally being created by Apple makes it even more funny somehow)

Problematist

@BrodieOnLinux Ah yes X11, the least Linux thing imaginable. Especially if you build custom code for it.

HowToPhil (Phillip R)

@BrodieOnLinux Lots of distros still use X11 and not Wayland...

TruckStopSantaClaus

@BrodieOnLinux I think not having things like cups (when you don't need them) is a good thing

v0idness

@BrodieOnLinux its also extremely easy to install Bazzite on the steam deck anyways which is much easier to install programs and things on anyways, and is made specifically for steam deck and other handhelds

Brodie Robertson

@v0idness That's actually changing as of CES today, Valve is officially supporting other handhelds

remote procedure chris

@BrodieOnLinux i didn't realize there was a 'dev mode' on those, like it literally makes it a handheld linux machine? that's very cool actually

Brodie Robertson

@chrisisgr8 You can turn of the immutable part and just use it like Arch, it's not recommended, it'll probably break something but it's an option
