Sitting at the dining table, busy condensing 60 pages of unruly notes into 15 pages of more or less coherent text for my upcoming talk at @CCC. Every so often I glance up from my computer on this, Christmas Eve, and catch the eye of a family member whose suspicious gaze lets me know that they still don't quite believe that there is in fact a real conference, attended by real people like me, scheduled on Dec 27th. 18 comments

I write (to paraphrase Didion) to know what I think, and I accept talks at venues I respect whose thinking I want to engage with in order to have deadlines that help me move forward with certain inquiries. I would NEVER schlepp myself to Hamburg during the most relaxed time of year to read what a bot wrote at an hour dangerously close to my bedtime! I have shown that video of you calling chatGPT a bullshit machine to every class I taught (applying a 15+ age rating). 🙏 I can mouth it by heart "so..wastes your time... besmirches my name". Keep telling them. @Mer__edith so sweet to read of other folx doing the same thing tonight. I submitted a self-organized session on Relationship Anarchy at 38c3 and I'm still writing the zine that's supposed to form the basis of that presentation. Looking forwards to your talk! :) @catileptic oh it's you organising the session on relationship anarchy! I'm so looking forward to it ✨ @Mer__edith @CCC Unfortunately I didn't get any tickets, otherwise I would enjoy to listen. But yes, conferences starting at 27th of December are a bit odd.  @Mer__edith @CCC is it going to be good? BC your talk is at the same time as the one about dinosaurs.... |
