It is indeed @VoxClamans
Haaretz has been publishing for longer than Israel has existed. It's eminently credible.

I dont say the Israëliërs are the new nazi's but they shure learned a lot from them.

@ayoub I do point out that under the definition of anti-semitism given by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, a definition expressly adopted in law by a number of countries, "Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis" is expressly listed as an example of anti-semitic hate speech.

The memory of the holocaust has been turned into a weapon which is used to suppress criticism of Israel.

@Qybat @ayoub an anti-government position is anti-religion/anti-ethnicity? oopsie now how did that happen

i doubt it has been adopted into law as worded though

Qybat

@lritter @ayoub It doesn't help the situation that 'Jewish' is both a religious and an ethnic identity. That complicates things a lot.

Anne O'neam

@lritter @Qybat @ayoub if you think anti-semitism is "criticism of religion", you obviously aren't paying attention.

@Qybat @ayoub

This definition has been effectively rubbished by the actions of Israel.

@Qybat @ayoub
Given the quote is from a serving Israeli IDF person, is the IDF antisemitic?

Mogleg

@ColmDonoghue
It’s a well known fact that criticism of the Zionist entity is Hamas. So the IOF is now Hamas apparently.

@ayoub This "are we the baddies?" insight is a near christmas miracle!

@ayoub @youssefQ From the book “On Palestine” by Noam Chomsky and Ilan Pappé

NC: It's very striking. It's important to stress that in the 1930s you could not see what was going to happen. It was even true of German Jews. There is a book in 1935 (by Joachim Prinz, Wir Juden). This is a humanist Zionist who said that Jews should recognize that they should be sympathetic to the Nazis because they have the same kind of ideology we do. Blood and land and so on. We agree with that, if we can only explain to them that we are really on the same side, they will stop persecuting us. This was in 1935. In fact you can go to 1941, the USA had a consul in Berlin, prior to Pearl Harbor, and he was writing fairly sympathetic commentaries on the Nazis. His name was George Kennan. One of the framers of the postwar world.

@ayoub Former defense minister and chief of staff in the IDF Ya'alon has said something very close to this recently too. He called Israel a "corrupt, leprous, fascist messianic state". That was in Israeli Democrat TV.

Paul Sutton

@ayoub

Is it worth noting that 'following orders' has not saved Nazis from being hauled before a court and held accountable, even decades later.

@ayoub If you read history, comparisons can easily be made. For example, Atheists usually are familiar with religious history.

Nick

@ayoub I read that particular quote as being historic, from the 1990s. Do you think it’s supposed to relate to the 2023-24 genocide?

Artificial Intelligence News

@ayoub Judaism and Islam are both run by the most violent, Godless humans on the planet. Judaism by Netanyahu and Islam by the Ayatollah du jour in Iran. It doesn't matter what the tenets of their religions are. These humans have decided on hate and violence as what these two religions are all about. #Islam #Judaism #religion

@ayoub I appreciate how this article ends: it gives the reader full context instead of sparking outrage unlike similar ones, while also having some recommendations for the IDF leadership. Quality read!
