It's a nice 700 sq ft, with beautiful views, a goofy dog, good company, plants, light, music, books. AND... I can tell it will take some mental discipline to experience my recovery time here expansively rather than as deprivation.

Towards that end, I've decided to identify, every day, something beautiful, interesting, comforting or remarkable in my tinier-than-usual world. To help me stick to that practice, I'm going to share what it is I find in this thread, once per day (or so).

If that's interesting to you, follow along. If not feel free to mute this thread 💚

So, day 1: two lemons in the sun. The biggest one has grown bigger even in the few weeks since I injured my ankle. The 1st lemon we've had on this little lemon tree. When will it ripen? And what will we make with it? And how miraculous, lemons in winter in VT!

Several citrus fruits on a sunlit houseplant in front of a window. Outside the window is bright white snow.

Day 2: A friend and teacher had prisms hanging in a sunny window in her farmhouse & when she passed away, they came to us and hang now in our sunny window. This morning rainbows danced across the ceiling and walls, reminding me of my friend, and of how even a simple sunbeam contains multitudes.

A blurry circle of light on a wall, in the colors of the rainbow, with orange on the bottom all the way to purple on top.

Day 3: This opened today. It's packaging advertised a dark full pink. Never mind, surprises can be beautiful.

A mostly white amaryllis flower. It's center is green, and some of the petals, especially the ones on the right are streaked with red.

Day 4: The big brown eyes. The crossed front legs.

A black and white dog looks at the camera. He is holding a blue toy in his mouth and his front legs are crossed.

Day 5 - The open road, first time outside since surgery, on my way to the dentist. Fresh air: 100% A+

Day 7: Sometimes when you can't go to the woods, the woods comes to you.
