Boy, I just want to build something, walk away for a decade, come back, and have it still work! Is that too much to ask? Maybe I'm dreaming about such framework ... 😴

i've had nightmares about this, building something, walking away, finding to my horror 10 years later they haven't replaced it with something better. :D @nixCraft I have some Xlib programs written in C that still work after 30 years. But that's probably not what you're looking for ... awk(1) of course, where code written decades ago still works perfectly fine. No library-drift, no API changes, no major language changes…just pure consistency. 😛 @nixCraft I recently had an old client call me and said her server stopped working and needed fixing. It was actually 10 years old and the hd failed @nixCraft if it happens, you will cry a lot when you will have to come back to make modifications. Hopely, you will have changed and it may be difficult to maintain with more modern methods… |
