@bluestarultor @lcamtuf it says "Error" right there and it sure looks like it's having an error to me so I guess yeah that's normal, nowt to worry about

Otte Homan - remember Geordie

@ifixcoinops it also says 0% which I guess is output power PID setpoint. Something's wrong. But this little thing should not be able to deliver the power required to reach a red hot temperature anyway. If this is indeed an internal short, it should trip all sorts of fuses, RCDs, etc. So maybe this is simply just a Dall-E image? @bluestarultor @lcamtuf

@otte_homan @ifixcoinops @bluestarultor Hmm yes, looks like there's a gang of DALL-E forgers trying to sully the good name of a $38 soldering station from AliExpress

@lcamtuf @otte_homan @bluestarultor I mean if summat fails short rather than open then you're gonna have a day y'know

These things don't have variable output, they go RIGHT HOT AS WE CAN LADS until the computer tells it stop hotting

@ifixcoinops @lcamtuf @otte_homan @bluestarultor The surprising thing to me is that the internal current carriers can handle enough power to heat a soldering iron tip orange-hot without instantly dissociating into smoke. Usually these things are made out of gossamer and fairy wings (cheap, factory-farmed fairies, obviously) and have a safety margin of -10% or so.

@whbboyd @lcamtuf @otte_homan @bluestarultor Well they can't, that's why they melted into a lump capable of passing a lot of current but no longer capable of saying That's Enough Current Thanks
