@i0null This is a very great book. Highly recommended. Also, published after his death, The Varieties of Scientific Experience. The man should be considered a saint. There are a million reasons this would never be broadcast on the news today, but the most obvious one is that Sagan's first sentence, as quoted, would require two commercial breaks and a "now Piper will interview a monkey on roller skates" moment. @i0null @i0null I lack a lot of context being from not USA, but the fact this old media head read those words is pretty funny. Well that was so spot on and what I have been witnessing in the last 25 years… #populism #neoliberalism #dumbingdown #oligarchy #authoritarianism @i0null @dcoderlt The Sheep Look Up? I’ve not read that one yet. The next closest one i was thinking of (from a technological PoV) is Brave New World which was 40 years before that one. "There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there always has been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge." #Quote #Quotes #Meme #Memes #Asimov #US #Politics #USPol #USA #Ignorance |
