@uep suggested someone should swap the `n` and `ope` in this picture ... I happily oblige!

Picture of a speaker in front of a slide that originally read “Windows, The most open operating system”, photoshopped to swap the ’n’ and ‘poe’ of ‘open’ to read “Windows, The most nope operating system”

@heinz @uep it's a funny thing. i use windoze, but i have no real idea it is there (apart from when it demands patching!!!!!!!!!!). does anyone actually use a desktop OS for anything these days? honestly it could be running on anything. having been a UN*X user since the mid-80's i've always been a windoze desktop user because it simply kinda works for all the dull stuff i do. on a chromebook right now, i can't readily see the difference between this and windoze. i'll end with "as it should be".

@nemeciii @heinz @uep mine is a version managed by my company, so i don't have to worry about those things! however, your point is well made. like bloody X. well, you've just gone and ruined it for everybody, haven't you.

@pavsmith well, there's a couple things I do that require specific features… or at least work differently depending on what OS I'm using

sure… I can substitute a proper OS and it's tools with WSL, git-bash (or cygwin) and similar.

And I could play windows games using proton and whatever.

but as soon as I start to see mountpoints or get annoyed by windows' crappy window manager, it's still kinda obvious?

@drazraeltod i spend 90%+ of my time in a browser and so sitting here on a chromebook my experience is more or less identical. if i had to use it as a workstation... ugh! i'd be back on some kind of UN*X derivative asap.

plus i have muscle memory for vi, and only use the keyboard commands! arrow keys were for those mainframe types!

@pavsmith @heinz @uep Hmmm, if you don't really care about your OS, then you probably really don't want that OS to be windows, as it's full of spyware. If you don't need something that only runs on windows, windows is by far the worst choice.

@ainmosni @heinz @uep it's a work laptop and all of that spyware is completely locked down. I don't even need to manage it and in most cases like screenshots I can't even change them!

@pavsmith @heinz @uep Fair enough, if it's a work laptop it's a different story.

@heinz @uep lol I misread I though you were swapping n and p now -- to "pone" -- as in the most pwn'd OS...

@heinz @uep

A "speaker infant" is awkward but I guess fits.

@heinz @uep@octodon.social @jwz But this is *wrong*. The problem with Windows is that it is the most “yep" operating system: yep to spying by default, yep to higher complexity, yep to needless AI, yep to …

@heinz @uep
Ah yes. This. This is much more accurate.

@heinz @uep If it was from the Midwest I'd ask for the Most Ope Operating System

@heinz
BorgSoft claiming their DataFarming OS is open, let alone the most open? Truly we are through the looking glass, where the exact opposite of the truth is casually stated as fact ...

@heinz @uep the alt text infant looks like a typo... should it be in front?

@heinz@mastodon.social @uep@octodon.social I suggest a new company motto: "Microsoft: Computer says no" ™️

@heinz @uep wait - did that *actually* say "open" originally?!😂

Code of Amor 💘

@heinz @uep I don't know... having it as the "most open" is a bit of a dumb statement in itself.... I know it has holes a truck could drive through, but giving a talk on it?
