People are praising #Bluesky for being like ‘#Twitter, but before it got bad’. I was a big fan of Twitter back in 2017–2021, so I was eager to try it out. I mean, if it’s like that, plus decentralized, plus open-source, plus moderated — what else to wish for?
But it (still) didn’t click with me. The feed, even though it’s mostly folks I also read here, is more boring. ‘Discover’ is also not working for me. And at first, I thought that the old-Twitter comparison was false.
But it’s not! What I failed to remember was that I left Twitter for Mastodon *before* the former got bought and made bad. So, Bluesky would probably be a good choice for 2017–2021 me, but not for the current me.
And that’s totally fine. Bluesky is not an enemy, it’s just an alternative, which creates healthy competition on the ‘federated and/or decentralized social networks’ market. If you like it, use it. If not, then not 🤷♂️
