Boost this toot if you're planning on sticking around Mastodon & the Fediverse whether or not it's more popular than Bluesky. @JesseSkinner @cogdog Sticking with Mastodon. Was on Bluesky for an hour and starting feeling the enshitification undercurrent. Deleted the account. Seemed the logical way out. @JesseSkinner Haven't been on here for too long, but I've already found it to be very welcoming and helpful - and I've changed instances twice! @JesseSkinner If Mastodon keeps picking up the traits of older social media I might drop off it at some point. @InsertUser well my "boost my toot" thing is probably the worst example of this, but don't let me ruin the place for ya :) @JesseSkinner That occasionally tweaks my old anti-chain letter instincts, but that isn't a thing I'm seeing enough to bother me. There's a repetitiveness that starts to get to me after a while even when they're points of view I agree with. Good tagging can help make that manageable through filters but I'm seeing a lot more untagged repetition than I used to. @JesseSkinner Given a choice, I'll go where I'm the least vulnerable to social cooling. BSky is only better than Twitter in that regard in that it still has a working block function. @JesseSkinner I have a feeling that Bluesky will eventually end up like X at some point because corporate interests always pollute cool things. Fediverse and Mastodon are where I prefer to be, as I find more interesting posts without an algorithm. The posts I would find with an algorithm didn't really appeal to me, but they were vomited onto my feed in the hopes of getting me to browse for hours. A big swing and a miss, clearly, since I spend most of my time on Lemmy or Mastodon. @JesseSkinner I tried bluesky. It was fun because there were some authors I liked, but for the most part I was anxious about it turning into Twitter. And I haven't heard anything to convince me it won't. @JesseSkinner This is my home and I am not going anywhere! @JesseSkinner I will never join Bluesky. It's more of the same crap as twitter. And trading one corporate overlord for another is not an act of resistance: the site is actively suppressing Palestinians and pro-Palestinian speech, for example. It's also chock full of the most utterly insufferable liberals (see my pinned tweets π). I'm still on twitter for now. I'm quite literally an obnoxious proselytiser for Mastodon there. No one seems to want to hear it. But I don't care π @JesseSkinner @stripey π― - because freedom from enshittification matters to me a LOT. I actually respect what Bluesky is doing in some ways, and honestly I wish them well. But to me this place and the community it embodies is worth working to preserve. @JesseSkinner mastodon is pretty much everything I want in a social network. Maybe if there were more Model Railroaders it would be absolutely perfect. Otherwise as long as the vintage Mac community is here thereβs no reason to leave. @JesseSkinner Staying here. Nothing to do with popularity -- Bluesky *will* enshittify. There's no point in going to it. @JesseSkinner Features are better here: How could I leave Edit behind? Rebuilt the majority of my network here. Itβs nerdier. Itβs co-op. Whatβs not to like? @JesseSkinner@toot.cafe I'm not on Mastodon right now, and I'm unlikely to switch, regardless of what happens with Bluesky. Definitely staying here. Bluesky is now in the hands of investment companies. Guess what will happen next? Enshitification. It's unavoidable. I'm not putting in time and energy to build a community on Bluesky, when it will just go down the same road as Xitter. Because sure enough, one of the oligarchs will buy it next, and turn it into their own little nazi-playground. Fool me once and all that. @JesseSkinner @heleenkuiper I left Twitter because it gave me to much adrenaline every time I was there. With visiting Bluesky the same thing happened. I blame the algorithms that puch to much of the same subject. So I stick here. @JesseSkinner happy on both but concerned as to whether the sky will remain blue! @JesseSkinner I actually like it here precisely because it's less popular than Bluesky. @JesseSkinner fediverse yes, Mastodon, well, it depends. If some of the other forks add the features I miss, then I'll swap probs. Bluesky is not a vibe for me. The number of Blueskybros coming to the fedi to bark about how much better BS is turns me off. Also the faux decentralization. And the apparent like, issues with actual federation. @JesseSkinner i'm happy to be on both, i don't know why i'd leave here just because i'm on something else too π€· π @JesseSkinner@toot.cafe I have both, but my preference is the fedi. Here, there's quality engagement. The protocols may not be perfect, but I will take community-driven over corporate-driven any day of the week. Most definitely and I don't plan on bridging either. I should add, I do have both. As someone else commented already, they can coexist. @JesseSkinner It's a not so BlueSky! π I'm still here and at the moment have no plans to leave! @JesseSkinner Bluesky, its billionaires, AI scraping, etc can die in a fire. Nothing good comes from billionaires. @JesseSkinner After 3 divorces I really canβt guarantee that sort of commitment Iβm sorry :) @JesseSkinner Mastodon seems to become the better Google+ and Bluesky a ... more limited Twitter. @JesseSkinner May I just write a comment because Iβm a nonconformist π |
@JesseSkinner I've seen a lot of "social media" platforms coming and going over the years and I'm tired of it.
