It's a common fallacy among techies -- I've seen if for my entire very long career as a techie myself. I've seen it trying to support ordinary users who just barely understand enough about their devices to use them for simple tasks, and even then have problems if anything out of the ordinary happens. I've seen it the times I was working inside Google. I've seen in everywhere for many decades, even as the tech became harder and harder for ordinary people to understand. Custom ROMs? Privacy apps? More and more people are terrified of installing anything, because so often what they install turns out to be malware. I'm sorry, but as far as I'm concerned, you are in this instance way off base in terms of the real world reality outside the techie nirvana.
