@jwildeboer I would partially agree up to mailing lists and IRC, we need to keep in mind users and their preferences, and working around that
For example, I'm one of the maintainers for MCprep, which is very much focused on 12 year olds learning Blender. As much as I hate to day it, having a Discord makes it much easier to assist them then using say GitHub Discussions, since most of them have and use Discord on a regular basis. In addition, IRC doesn't support images, which we need to help assist users (I think we both know how vauge users get at times 😅), and the lack of a proper history makes pointing to solutions to often repeated questions difficult. I think the best of both worlds in this case would be to make repeated support questions with their solutions public, just so, if anything, that it pops up in search, but to keep a Discord for anything else.
