As for determining sex of snowy owls, males are usually more white than females, and also if you see an owl sitting on the nest, it is most likely a female.

There are a lot of different species in the strigiformes order. Sexual differences may vary from species to species, they can be relatively prominent as well as literally non-existent. The only universal correlation is that female owls are usually heavier and larger than males.
