I agree with the sentiment behind this but wouldn't actually encourage girls to pick physical fights with boys. Least of all boys who are indicating that they are potentially violent misogynists. This has a high risk of ending up extremely badly for the girl.
If there's actually a physical advance from the boy that indicates imminent assault, then sure: A knee to the balls, pepper spray to the face, or keys into his eyes or whatever, before you run away and call for help, may be a good idea, if you can land it. (I don't know much about self defence, but it sounds sensible.)
But if he's just flinging around words, then I think picking a fight will end badly for the girl in the majority of cases. She may even get into trouble with authority because the self defence claim is unlikely to hold.
