There are many “what should we do next” thinkpieces, but this one is mine.

If you want an abstract summary, the idea is “we need to run a year-round parallel campaign apparatus that just introduces people to progressive ideas by making their lives better in whatever ways we can”.

That is a staggeringly huge project and if it does even happen, I can only be a tiny part of it, so I will need your help. Contact info is at the end of the blog post.

@glyph i remember saying this in 2001. it’s not wrong!

my other idea that I have _zero_ chance of actually making happen is that Crooked Media or someone like them needs to poach Matt Levine from Bloomberg and stand up a full-fledged competitor to CNBC where they cover economic and market issues from a progressive standpoint. If everyone gets all their financial and economic news from conservatives of course the population is going to keep trusting conservatives on the economy

Glyph

so there you go, one good idea and one bad idea

@glyph i dunno man i think a lot of rich people are about to throw a lot of money at various ideas about media ecosystems and that one actually sounds pretty reasonable w/a high chance of success at a pretty low cost

Glyph

@cryptadamist well, if you know jon lovett then get him on the phone, I don't need any credit

@glyph i don't but i do occasionally talk to people who do

@cryptadamist if there's a chance you could get this in front of them, I _am_ dead serious about it. during a week of fretting about how nobody hears their economic message, BTC and Crooked and the Bulwark all wondering why nobody hears from dems about economics, and well, look at their respective "shows" pages; dozens and dozens of shows, 1/3 social or cultural issues, 1/3 international affairs, 1/3 political analysis. 0% economics.

@glyph i spend a decent amount of time trying to educate the bulwark crew about issues like the chairman of the trump transition team running the central bank of international criminal finance facilitating all the pig butchering scams and most of the sanctions evasion in the world. in fact reading yr post my first thought was to forward yr idea to the bulwark.

@glyph I was pondering earlier today a news service that not so much "targeted" but more "accommodated" the younger adults, meaning they'd spend more time explaining the details of current political topics... for instance "what a tariff is, how it works, the history of its use.

After all, the purpose of a free press is to inform and educate the populace.

@glyph I'm down. Building bridges across my experiences, communities, and identities is absolutely the plan.
