A political science professor studying civil wars at the University of California at San Diego argues that that the United States is coming close to those conditions. https://web.archive.org/web/20220310030223/https://www.washingtonpost.com/magazine/2022/03/08/they-are-preparing-war-an-expert-civil-wars-discusses-where-political-extremists-are-taking-this-country/
@yogthos I do see intense civil violence possible, but I do not see the "two armies" civil war scenario. This is because there is no contiguous geographic regionalism to this division. In fact, what I see probable actually would be more disorganized, and much more widespread violent, instead of a "formal" civil war. I think instead something a bit closer to an insurrection or Somalia-like civil collapse.
