Imagine the 100+ deaths in #spain were a terror attack. It would be talk of the day for weeks. Politicians would scream for Swift And Decisive Action. Never Again! Root of the Problem!

It's climate change. And yes, We need to Act Swiftly and Decisively. But those yelling it loud enough to be heard, were thrown in jail for "planning to be disruptive". Now we mourn, send thoughts and prayers, and tomorrow we go on making the problem bigger. Because "duh economuh".

@JorisMeys In Aug. 2024 a man killed 6 people with a knife in a festival in the city of Solingen.

The response of the German gov. was as immediate as it was ineffective to address the problem: Migration debates, more border controls & more regulation for knives.

When the Ahrtal floods occurred in 2021, ca. 200 people died. Armin Laschet, NRW Minister, said his famous phrase

„Just because today is such a day, one doesn’t change the politics“.

"Root of the Problem"? No, the thing with terror attacks is just that they're so great to use for other stuff. Surveillance, closed borders, racism, ... Almost nobody in power even tries to really fight terrorist organizations, esp. not by supporting democratic/liberal opponents.

And with climate change, we've got similar effects. Discussions about eFuels, H2, small private changes (too often with bad transparency), instead of the big topics. Like public transport, more efficient heating, less flights and flesh, insane supply chains (like food going around the world for cheaper packaging), ...

@JorisMeys Since its man-made and for selfish reasons, its a kind of terrorism as well.

⬆️ This. And so true. Yet it will NEVER be called such...even tho it effects each and every one of us.

@JorisMeys it is terror. From Shell, BP, Exxon, etc.

@JorisMeys

Not the politicians who were on the same side as the terrorists, and therein lies the problem.

@JorisMeys I find John Ironmonger's idea quite charming, we freeze the politicians and then thaw them out when we can and then put them on trial.
