Good news! Apple will be moving some of the keys on their Magic Keyboard to the bottom because “who uses these keys anyways”. Many people argue it’s actually good design

@nikitonsky as a programmer, the place for F-keys, bracket, backslash, tab, and caps lock key deeply annoy me, but I guess I have to adopt now. Like the removal of the headphone jack, this will set a new standard soon. @nikitonsky this is so much like Jobs' stance on phone keys that it looks real. I mean, this is a joke, right? @nikitonsky always been a big fan of needing to remember key combinations for print screen, insert and delete on my laptop. (bought a macbook air in 2013 because they seemed to last longer than other laptops and to be fair to it it's still running happily) @nikitonsky In unrelated news, Samsung independently comes up with the exact same idea. @nikitonsky Jokes aside, I feel better that I'm not the only person who doesn't use the right shift key, lol. @nikitonsky I ink hey could have one one sep furher: No one uses "T", "G", and "B" anyway, so why no remove hese annoying ones from he op as well and pu hem o he oom? @nikitonsky this is actually ideal for IRL pair-programming, just need to purchase the $200 upright stand for it. @nikitonsky honestly still looks marginally less infuriating to type on than some mechanical keyboard enthusiast custom layouts where you have to hold down 3 different keys to produce an exclamation mark @nikitonsky that must be fake news. If Apple had actually done this, the ESC key would have been moved as well. @nikitonsky honestly, I think if they persist with this dumb design, I might just end up designing a base that has a button at the front that presses the power button for you. It’s an idea I’d been toying with for my 2018 mini, but I couldn’t figure out a simple way of implementing it, and it wasn’t that bad to squeeze my hand back there to press the power button. Not anymore though, I’ll be a lot more difficult with this design. @nikitonsky oh come on. If you press that darn button so often, just flip the computer upside down. @nikitonsky Oh jeeze... The sad part is that I actually had to double-take before I realized the picture was satirical. It's just... SUCH an apple-y move, and exactly the type of move that would have the apple stans climbing out of the woodwork to defend it. Like the monitor stand. Or the cheese grater caster wheels. @nikitonsky With the slow but steady deterioration of keyboard design, we will get there eventually. |
@nikitonsky at least they've learned their lesson and are leaving the esc-key alone.
