a fun fact: actually the words male and female are unrelated

female comes from the Latin word femella — a young woman, while male comes from the Latin word masculus — masculine, a male

p. s. I’m amused by this remark on the dictionary page for male:

Displaced native Old English wǣpned (“male”, literally “penised”), derived from the noun wǣpn (“weapon”), which had the secondary sense “penis”.
