I hate it when people use military history not as a textbook of human mistakes that shall never again be reproduced, but as a book of grudges.

@kashifshah The Art of War is a banger of a book by the way. Aside from tactics and strategies that actually come in handy not just in literal, physical war but in any competitive environment, one of its first lessons is that the only truly winning move in war is not to play. yuuuup! one of my favorite books aware of this? “How should the lord of a myriad chariots carry himself lightly before the kingdom? If he do act lightly, he has lost his root (of gravity); if he proceed to active movement, he will lose his throne.” Ch 26 |

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
Sun Tzu, The Art of War
