Youtube, The Guardian, NY Times, etc ...

I don't even want to be on their crummy websites.

Can't Mastodon just have an inbuilt frontend or something that just opens up videos and articles in some kind of proxy window thingy?

Yes, you can. Microsoft doesn't seem to monitor or censor anything in GitHub.
