It was a rare occasion I had to drive into campus. First time in years so I'm not too fussed about it. What I do want to point out though is that they had to accommodate me with a physical student card b/c my phone could not run the app that the e cards use.
So there's already precedence as they can't force me to shell out $ to buy a phone and they are a public institution, so it's not exactly a private business.
