The wait is over. HTML for People is OUT NOW!

I feel strongly that anyone should be able to make a website with HTML if they want. This web book will teach you how to do just that. It doesn’t require any previous experience making websites or coding. I will cover everything you need to know to get started in an approachable and friendly way.

And it’s free for all. 🚀

@bw As someone who does this for 18 years now: It's really well written. I'm only a few chapters in but will definitely send the link to a few of our juniors that skipped this part and directly started with JS-Frameworks. 😅

Thank you for this!

@bw Very good job. For sure a book to read for many web un-developers of nowadays.

@bw @bech As Justin Hall (links.net) said. HTML is easy as hell!

#HTMLForPeople is great!

I taught beginner HTML many years ago. #H4P gets into CSS much quicker than I did, but if I have to teach HTML again I'll restructure my lessons and use your book.

Another good beginner HTML resource I've used is htmldog.com

@bw In late to the party but congratulations on the launch Blake!

@bw
Wonderful job, so simple for newbies or children, I love it !

I was on board until "Get this bloated MS text editor!" When there are a lot better options out there that don't have 5000 useless things in them like: Notepad++ or SciTE
Especially since MS is pushing CoPilot.

@bw

Amazing work. Thanks for creating this.

🚲

@bw can i suggest readable css as an alternative to simple css?

@bw

Is it weird that I immediately wondered where I should load my HTML code?

Like, is there a dongle in for my navel?

Gah. I hope it's navel...

@bw Hooray!! Congratulations, Blake! 🎉

bicipoiesis

@bw I really like your approach! In the early 2000s I had a student job at university and one of my tasks was building and maintaining the website of our small institute. Pure HTML. At that time a good source was (and apparently still is) @selfhtml These days I've been thinking about setting up a #smallweb|site and your project is a nice incentive to just put hands on.

Blake Watson :prami:

@bicipoiesis @selfhtml Yeah that sounds great! No time like the present.

Jörn Franke

@bw can also recommend @selfhtml wiki.selfhtml.org/wiki/SELFHTM It is in German, but you can use any English translator. You may find some useful synergies, link to each other or try to adapt some of the features, like offline version

The Evil Chocolate Cookie

@bw is it going to teach me how to make an edit box that actually works? My tools don’t have that option.

tharo

@bw Not that I needed it but: Thank you for giving something out for free :)

Aleister

@bw I might need to check this out at some point

Ori

Even if I know HTML and CSS for years, I read it all.
This is definitively the best tutorial for building a Website for newbies that I have ever read (that is not about "how to install this ootb CMS directly from an hosting provider).

I don't know if I would have time for this but I would maybe consider translating it into French to reach even more "people" (with your permission of course).

katherine

@bw reading through it now and it's so fun!! i can't wait to share it 🥹

Granny Art (Shrimp) (Joni)

@bw Oh, is this like the Barebones HTML guide?

Kevin

@bw Thanks Blake! I'm going to use this to teach my kid how to build a web site. Great resource.
