Yknow what saddens me

Flappy bird is back bc some crypto asshole done a legal shenanigan to get it declared an abondened IP, to use it for a crypto garbage mobile app under that IP, against the wishes and without paying the original creator

So, when it's for scamming people, we can actually declare stuff as abandon ware, but not when someone just wants to bury a beloved series or franchise, like the English dub of sailor moon, which you can only pirate now

This is why you can't steal from a corporation, it's called reclamation

@MiaWinter Excuse me? This can’t be real…
Please tell me this is not real.
What is this world? :blobcat_cry:

@MiaWinter@tech.lgbt this is partially incorrect. the flappy bird trademark was in legal hell since half a year after it was registered. the legal shenanigans is not a new thing. they just didn't uphold the trademark. https://trademarks.justia.com/862/09/flappybird-86209920.html

they still technically can reclaim the flappybird (one word) trademark, which is why the new ip is flappy bird (two words)

this is why it's important to properly document and trademark your stuff

@MiaWinter and also they lied when saying the original author was on board with them. they have no remorse

@MiaWinter@tech.lgbt

Rich Stanton of PC Gamer, while indecisive on the trademark acquiring, states that "there's a small bit of [him] that wants to see [Flappy Bird] smash straight into a pipe."
It's all games journalists' sacred duty to be spineless uncritical cowards.

@MiaWinter abolish trademarks, copyright, corporations and proprietary software :neocat_angry:

@MiaWinter like a certain fictional lover of guy fawkes masks said - "You can't steal from the censor, I merely reclaimed them"

@MiaWinter@tech.lgbt You can't access the English dub of Sailor Moon anymore? Just when I was going to start watching it :blobcatverysad:

@MiaWinter alas, trademark law operates completely differently from copyright law, even if both are lumped under the umbrella of "intellectual property"

Kakurady

@MiaWinter The original creator could file a DMCA takedown notice. While legal from a trademark standpoint, it does look like a copyright violation to me (who is not a lawyer).

@MiaWinter Do I spot someone else who watches the Jinquisition? :blobfoxeyes:
