@bookstodon Of all the great Tom Gauld cartoons, and there are many (BAKING WITH KAFKA being my favorite collection) this one still cracks me up every time I see it!

Three authors are on a panel, each with a large poster of their respective new book covers behind them.

The first author introduces their book, HORSEBACK DOCTOR, by saying "This book was inspired by my previous career as a surgeon and my time riding with cowboys in Wyoming."

The second author introduces their book, LOVE AT THE PATISSERIE, by saying "To prepare for my book I spent a year apprenticed to a baker in Avignon and edited a lonely-hearts column for the local paper."

The third author is noticeably silent. We look behind them to see that the title of their book is THE LITERARY FESTIVAL MURDERS.

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon Reminds me of The Serialist, whose main character is a writer interested in a serial killer

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon so what I'm hearing is that I should stop writing my book about a serial procrastinator who takes up sailing, entitled "A Stay Late and a Dollar Short"?

unusual zone of infecundity
@kimlockhartga @bookstodon i've seen this at least once or twice before and only this time do i notice the relative fulness of each person's glass of water...

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon aw, the murder author could have said something here, like, "Hello, all you lovely people! It's you! You inspire me." :)

Note that Isaac Asimov did actually publish a murder-mystery novel called "Murder at the A.B.A", which is (or was) the American Bookseller's Association convention.

Good novel, too!
