@jk "Continue with injected ads" of course!

Erik Ableson

@jk @ricardo Please tell me that’s a mock-up and not a screen-shot…

JP

@jk you know, they've been getting so goddamn brazen that I was about to ask if this showed up in testing/canary/something

because with how much they're tightening the noose atm, they fucking would wouldn't they

Ismael Olea

@jk I'm not sure what is what I'm seeing.

Kote Isaev

@jk Next level:
"This site does not support state-required digital gulag id.
Please insert your personal tracking id card to use fallback state activity monitoring software".

Kote Isaev

@jk That would be funny if it would not be so sad...

Matt Palmer

@jk @jwz this is extremely unrealistic, because Google *never* asks for consent.

Ψ*Ψ

@jwz @womble @jk It’s ok we just have to pretend we all LOVE this horrible new feature because then Google will definitely kill it

🌸Lilyana Marie🌸

@jk Me: Continue with injected ads.

Pihole and pfSense: 🤣

Tuchowski

@jk Which HTTP status would that be? 666? Or rather $$$?

imonearth

@jk Obviously, people will always press the grey button as long as the page has a warning...

chebra

@imonearth Good point - if this was real, the "inject ads" button would be the primary.

Varyag
@jk I wouldn't be surprised to see this for real.
Henryk Plötz

@jk You joke, but that is the future the coinbros want for us. github.com/lightninglabs/L402/ waxes poetically about "The Forgotten HTTP Error Code" talking about "402 Payment required".

anyGould

@henryk Honestly, I'd prefer getting a 402 "no, you didn't pay for this" error over the current "let me send you everything and then script-kiddie lock it" system.

mthie

@jk Looks like you tried to open my blog ❤️

kaspa

@jk Ya know, I saw this and starting singing "Say It Ain't So" by Weezer.

@jk
Please. Please tell me this is fake, this is a mock-up until now.

Linux Is Best

@jk@mastodon.social Time to switch to Vivaldi web browser. Enable their built-in ad blocker, install uBlock, install privacy badger, and finally switch to using Next DNS and enable ad blocking. -- Problem solved.

lifts

@jk If this were real, Google would be waxing on about how website authors depend on advertising to survive, and framing their injection of adware into a page without it as heroically helping the author.

@jk the upsetting part of this for me is that for at least a few seconds I could not tell if it was satire because it's something I expect to happen...

CaffeineFueled

@jk At this point I am not sure if this is fake or not

dark_stang

@jk if you're asking yourself "is this real or satire", then maybe reality has gotten too fucked.

@jk weird, that's not what it looks like for me

Review your Global Privacy Control preferences

You're using Global Privacy Control (GPC). This leads to a lower-quality experience on Yahoo by blocking certain editorial content, including embedded tweets and YouTube videos, and third-party ads that are relevant to your interests.

To enhance your Yahoo experience, allow us to share and sell your personal information. This includes technical identifiers, like your IP address and cookie IDs, but does not include things like personal emails or contact information.

This won't affect your GPC settings for other websites and you can always change this preference in Privacy controls.

Wait a second, let me implement that… /maybesarcastic

ari :autism:
@jk sorry i am on my way to add ads and massive tracking to ari.lt asap
OmegaMastadon

@jk
It's probably a joke but just the fact that it's believable alone is sad

Les capsules du prof Lutz

@jk "Continue with injected ads into your Neuralink optical AUX port."

Gloopsies :fedora:

@jk

You know this is fake because they wouldn't tell you that. They would just insert the ads by default

It's not finished yet, but I decided to implement a web-demo of this for different browsers. You can visit traumweh.dev/not-monetizable/ and you well get this warning in your browser's style based on your User-Agent (I know, not reliable).

Alternatively, append "firefox.html", "chrome.html" or "safari.html" to the URL to see the specific versions. They are still WIP and the latter two might not look the same across browsers. Might add more browsers soon. Who knows.

@jaybird110127 @jk None of mine are. I run adblock like crazy!

@jk This is from a Black Mirror episode right?

... right? o.o
