@nixCraft or get a better vendor...? @nixCraft I'm trying to hold out until more Android phones get Qi 2 charging. Been rocking my Pixel 6 for so long now. :blobfoxdealwithitfingerguns: * Check postmarketOS wiki for best supported devices @nixCraft @Stax @nixCraft @LineageOS @bioxman @nixCraft @LineageOS I'm unsure how fast e os adapts devices, but most Lineage OS devices are sooner or later available on e os as well But just sticking with LineageOS is perfectly fine as well! I just personally feel like /e/ is more polished than LineageOS @nixCraft My old phone was a Samsung Galaxy Note 3. I used it from 2016 to 2023 until it's wirelles chipset has died. Which prevents it from connecting any type of networks. Expect that, It still runs like a charm and sometimes I use it to play some old games to relive my childhood. @nixCraft "dies" for me is "stops getting security updates". IIRC for Apple that's five years. My Samsung phone is approaching five years and I think it's still getting security updates. But it used to be three years for Android. So no, you can't ignore the supplier's hype. The phone may still take pictures and all that but you do *not* want it on the internet if it is vulnerable to hackers. @AlgoCompSynth@mastodon.social @nixCraft@mastodon.social iOS supports iPhone XR, launched in 2018. I haven't bought a new new phone for ages. I'm currently using a OnePlus 6T MacLaren edition that I bought used four years ago. @nixCraft My mother in law said she has to get a new phone by the end of the year because Apple will no longer update hers. I don't think it's all that old. Never had that problem with my Android. @violenteastcoastcity @nixCraft Android used to be much worse back in the day, 3 years or so IIRC? Apple had much longer lifespans⦠but I think Android support is massively better these days. @nixCraft @nixCraft I recently bought a used OnePlus 6 and flashed LOS 14. Quite happy with the result. @nixCraft so they die sooner now. and rebirth with a custom rom is not that straightforward and some vendors don't allow unlocking bootloader. :( also companies like purism, system76, tuxedo probably don't know of existence of third world countries. general irl public don't even know what those brands are.
