It's talk like a pirate day! Here I go:
"I just want to access the media I already own in a portable format that I can watch or listen to in high quality on all my devices without DRM or adverts."
Did I do it right?

@ParadeGrotesque @LewisWorkshop Hey wait, you can't do that, it's immoral! You can't own the media, that's some sort of leasing and their seller should always remote control whatever you want to do. Simple to understand, isn't it? A bit like, er, say, a #Telsa car! (don't misunderstand the word 'media' of course, if you meant media like #FoxNews or #NewsCorp, then yes own them and do whatever you want with them) @LewisWorkshop oh arghhhh and shiver my timbers, now what's the question? @LewisWorkshop Spot on. Also: Avast, matey. You be close but not on the mark, I wager. If you already own the media, then it's not piracy, is it? You may violate the DMCA in the US, but since the publisher/artist/author is still getting paid, I don't consider it piracy. Arr! @LewisWorkshop "I just want what internet companies call a license to provide actual ownership and full utility of the things and software that I paid for." @LewisWorkshop Perfect! "all governments should run free and open source software to guaranty transparency, accountability and sovereignty" @LewisWorkshop the best legal way to do this is buy dvd from thrift stores and stuff then use handbrake to rip only the movie and re encode it yes handbrake can literally only rip the movie itself from a dvd movie As someone currently working on getting a media library setup with legal copies of stuff not on stream services I use (or at all).. trying to get legit 20 year-old out of print DVDs that work is a total disaster. And of course that doesnโt cover the things that were never even released and are just gone. @LewisWorkshop โI want to be in control of my hearing aid hardwareโ I think I got it @LewisWorkshop You forgot "try before you buy". "Avast ye swabs! I just want to access the media I already own in a portable format that I can watch or listen to in high quality on all my devices without DRM or adverts me hearties!" @LewisWorkshop i signed off from a team meeting yesterday with "shiver me timbers! i thought this meeting would have to have been done in pirate speke!". some figured it out immediately. one guy actually had a toy parrot next to him, which went on his shoulder! @LewisWorkshop The caveat is that you don't own it :( Technically, you're (maybe) renting a right to (maybe) (sometimes) watch it (or its low quality derivative) on some (certified) device (unless this right is revoked for absolutely any reason) (and there might be some additional clauses attached, see "Disney restaurant death"). |
@LewisWorkshop
Perfect, me matey!
