Oh man, i *REALLY* wanna ditch Maps, but right now it's the ONLY app that gives me reliable navigation for public transportation, nothing OSM-based i've seen yet comes even *remotely* close to GMaps on this, OSMAnd is the one that seems to try and get close, but the suggestions are... NOT good, and take forever to compute

Yep. I used Google Maps to navigate the public transit system in DC. I was surprised at how well it worked with live updates of arrival times for busses and trains. Then again Alphabet has those connections and deals to make it so.

I am playing around with Organic Maps at the moment. My next step is to use it for some upcoming car trips.

Another feature of big tech that would be nearly impossible to implement is live traffic and road closure updates

Gut feeling with these kinds of problems tends to be "Something peer to peer", but i'm but a humble sysadmin so dunno how realistic that gut feeling is

One cool yet spooky aspect of Google Maps is when they tell you how busy a place is due to the number of phone users at a location.

I know I've backed out of visiting one restaurant over another due to what it has said.
