Oh nice. She was about to go into talking about planning good infrastructure for the upcoming computer information networks - and decided to make an analogy as to how the car boom lead to the US forgetting about other transportation, like rail.

Yep yep yep.

A still frame from the talk with Grace Hopper saying "we forgot something. We forgot transportation as a whole. We only looked at the automobiles."

She's wearing a formal naval uniform. Her navy hat is laid on the desk she's casually half-sitting on. Her hair is all white.

She's since gone into the value of information, how some ("the chemical plant is about to explode unless you shut part N down") is more valuable than other ("Jim worked 2 hours of overtime"), and how costly incorrect information can be.

She used the example of a personnel database and how incorrect information could lead to negative outcomes for people, who have a right to sue over it.

I can't help but extrapolate to *mis*information, wilfully incorrect information that can have extreme costs.

Talking about dealing with people who always say no the first time:

(I love her)

Grace Hopper speaking.

"...to come back and ask again -- so never take the first 'no',"
Grace Hopper speaking.

"..always go back and ask again - as a matter of fact, I take about four "no"s and then I figure out.."
Grace Hopper speaking.

"..how to get around the guy, but -- that technique comes with age."

On getting stuff done - the context is talking about young people swanning in with computers, copying files, and making things better without permission.

Grace Hopper speaking.

"...but I long ago discovered that the best way to get something done was to do it -- "
Grace Hopper speaking.

"It's so much easier to apologize. You have no idea, oh gee, I didn't.."
Grace Hopper speaking.

(In a sing-song voice) "'I couldn't do that' -- I can turn into the most.."
Grace Hopper speaking.

"..helpless old female you ever saw. We've got to listen to our youngsters."
