Facebook renders the entire page as a single canvas element... so it seems they reimplement the browser in JS? Reaching new heights in making the web slow and inaccessible 🤦‍♂️

Paweł, Flash was better than this. You could at least decompile it into something readable.

unusual zone of infecundity
@grishka @Precz @kuba flash minus everything that was even theoretically good or worthwhile about flash
unusual zone of infecundity
@grishka @Precz @kuba (all the opaqueness, inefficiency and security problems of flash but without in any way empowering anyone to create any multimedia stuff who doesn't have a gazillion-dollar megacorp's budget to do so)

boltzmann's, yep. The killer feature of Flash was not the rightfully universally hated player. It was the authoring software. You could make really cool things really easily with no programming whatsoever. For even cooler things, you could copy-paste snippets of ActionScript from a forum or something, without having to understand much about them (gotoAndStop(frame) is kinda obvious to anyone). And in the end you get a neat single .swf file that contains your entire animation with all its assets. Just drop it to your server over FTP or something and you're good.

Compare this to modern "replacements" that involve writing non-trivial code for a hello world and using command-line tools to build it.

I can't reproduce this in either Firefox or Chrome. Is it actually Facebook doing this? Using Cloudflare technology?
