Good government is absolutely possible, and it is boring. If you don't have to actively think about a federal agency, that agency is doing its job. Many of them do, every day. The deep state rocks.

@ianrosewrites "the deep state" is "potentially secret and unauthorized networks of power operating independently of a state's political leadership in pursuit of their own agenda and goals" and while there are certainly organizations within the US that fit that description, i would much rather flatly reject the right wing framing that everyday citizen-focused services like the NWS etc are part of that.

@ianrosewrites to them the IRS going after rich tax dodgers is morally comparable to like, the FBI trying to get MLK to kill himself and just... no. i do not accept their framing, the "deep state" nomenclature that trump brought to the foreground, or anything connected to it. ordinary citizens want libraries and streets and accurate weather reports and botulism-free food, and we should electorally beat conservatives over the head with the fact that they hate those things.
