One computer I would love to get at some point is a complete Sharp X68000. Think of it as a souped up Japanese Macintosh or Amiga as it is a 68k based system. This is best thought of as a mid to late 80's computerized arcade cabinet.

@Jenavieve_Rose Not familiar with the software (or hardware for that matter!). But I always loved the look of the system, especially in black.

@occamydg It has a DOS like OS (some GUI’s where available too), but outside of 80’s Japanese productivity software it’s big usage was gaming. It had full on arcade quality gaming hardware for graphics, sprites, sound etc.

@Jenavieve_Rose oh, the way things could've turned out, if that douchebag Jobs hadn't come along....

@octothorpe @Jenavieve_Rose There was a period of time in the mid-late 90s / early 00s where case design went through an “experimental artistry” phase. See also the Sun Ray 1 that I boosted earlier 😁

@smallsco @Jenavieve_Rose yup! Also the Ray was great… if you worked at Sun. Years ahead of its time.

@Jenavieve_Rose if and when you do, seek out a copy of ChoRenSha 68k

very solid shmup, jammin music

@Jenavieve_Rose It’s definitely a piece of hardware I’ve never gotten enough exposure to and is pretty cool. Seems like the hardware is a bit arcade like.

Definitely above Macintosh and Atari, and a “it depends” against the Amiga.

The case is still truly cool looking. How are there no knock off PC cases of any of the old and cool designs?:( I want a next cube one too.
