@fmhilton @molly0xfff More info here: https://mastodon.sdf.org/@joeo10/113080664381467539 No question this is the beginning of the end of the Internet Archive and probably libraries as a whole. @molly0xfff I'm dizzy with the cognitive dissonance given Sam Altman's take, saying the quiet part out loud, on copyright the other day. @molly0xfff @thomzane @koen_hufkens the usual, just repeated: “we can’t make money without training on copyrighted works [for free].” And he’s acting like that’s supposed to be a bad thing, which is weird @molly0xfff This literally inspires me to steal more corporate I/P: books, movies, and music. @MattMerk @molly0xfff I make music and sell it via Bandcamp and Faircamp. If you like it, feel free to put nothing into Faircamp and steal it. Because I agree with you and am willing to give my art away for the mere sake of letting it live. Screw big corporations. https://faircamp.radiofreefedi.net/limnetic/ @molly0xfff Did this copyright thingy really start out to protect the public domain? Something must have been gone horrible wrong. @forceofhabit @molly0xfff That said, I recently used the IA lending library to access a scan of an old copyrighted book to research whether another work is public domain (it is!). This would not have been possible otherwise. It is well past time to start in on the WH, representatives and Senators. Demand this insane court ruling be overriden by law. Note: I've sent a nicely worded complaint to POTUS and VP, but feel free to poke your Governor too. Let them all know what you think about this state of affairs. I don't think the powers that be want something that records facts about what was posted when. That way you can change the facts at will moving forward. Sort of like the book 1984. @molly0xfff The Internet Archive should rename itself as Archive Internet (AI) as that seems to be above any copyright laws. @molly0xfff Fucking pathetic. We got nazis in some states holding the equivalent (or literal) of book burnings, and now this. @molly0xfff Losing the Internet Archive will be a tragedy as devastating as losing the Library of Alexandria. No exaggeration whatsoever. |
@molly0xfff oh no! 😥
