AI *in general* has been here for years and is increasingly useful all over the place.

LLMs is where the hype is, and where the utility currently is most dubious. And I think that's connected: you can't hype a technology that is already here and delivering - you know what it does.

Tech in its infancy is still unclear what it can do, so people are free to fill in the gaps with their imagination. And selling fantasy generates a lot more hype than reality.
