China's economic numbers come in better than expected. Turns out that not only does zero covid policy save millions of lives, but it's also good for the economy. Who knew that not having large portions of your workforce debilitated is a good thing. 🙃

@yogthos True, but the country that wants to implement Zero Covid will need to have total control over its citizen’s movement.

China can do it in cities by literally turning off every electronic payment system. If you can’t even buy a bus ticket and there are enough street corner checkpoints, you’ll stay at home.

@tsturm I'd argue a far bigger factor is the ability to ensure that people are able to stay home and to do mass testing.

China is able to ensure that people aren't fired from their jobs when they quarantine, and deliver food as well as other necessities to them.

They're also able to do mass testing of millions of people in days which requires being able to produce tests, having mobile teams, PPE, and so on.
