@inktrap well at least one is welsh AND an app.

BenBE

@inktrap Should I be concerned if I was very sure about all of them?

Irina

@benbe @inktrap I was in two minds about 'wcsoll' because it's at least *pronounceable* in Welsh. The rest were easy.

@inktrap trying hard not to list the Welsh and library functions...

Nicolas Lœuillet

@Sphinx_Pouet @inktrap j’avais vu passer mais je suis resté sage !

@inktrap purely based on my knowledge of C naming schemes: mbsrtowcs, strxfrm, wcstold, wcsoll

leo vriscrab² (homestuck) :dado_verified:

@inktrap ....i think wcsoll is a typo, it should be wcstoll (it does not appear to be welsh either)

One of them is Welsh AND the name of some software thing
Ben from CDS

@inktrap wcsoll and wmffre both parse as Welsh but few words end in "ll" so I suspect the former is a computer term the latter maybe Welsh for "Humphrey"? I should theoretically speak both well enough for this!

FeralRobots

@inktrap I'm just gonna label as Welsh all the ones without vowels.

Irina

@FeralRobots @inktrap Noooo, the only one without any vowels (strxfrm) is a library function. w is a vowel in Welsh!

Petr Tesarik

@inktrap I feel like mwyn() should be a C standard library function, but I have no idea what it should do. Can the C Standards Committee add it as reserved for future use, please?

mirabilos

@ptesarik @inktrap alt spelling for main()

btw, nobody Cc’d @thephd yet?

Alun Jones

@SteveSyfuhs @inktrap I know which to put in which column, but translation? That would assume I speak Welsh. Maybe @pengfold can help with that?

Steve Syfuhs

@ftp_alun @inktrap @pengfold is "Alun" not a Welsh spelling? Are you saying you don't speak the language of your namesake? Well I never

Chris Turnbow

@inktrap
I always assumed, they were one and the same? Like many of my variable names, especially back when Hungarian notation was a strThing?

@inktrap Feels more like Windows than POSIX, right?

@inktrap

Excuse me for a moment while I recompile the c compiler to include these new commands!

@inktrap @luna I'm gonna try and work this out

mwyn, cwtch, and rhowch I believe are Welsh, the rest are C functions
Hali

@inktrap I'm sending this to my nephew that loves coding.

klausfiend

@inktrap If guessing is allowed, the following are C library functions:

- mbsrtowcs
- strxfrm
- wcstold
- wcsoll

Dave Neary

@inktrap Very annoyed that the C or C++ functions in this are *not* in the C standard library! "wcs" is a wide character string - and are not a standard C type.
