my favorite part about this recurrent trend is that it picks up new elements each time it comes around. the british arts and crafts movement arguably shades into art nouveau and is very loud about its premodern influence. you see that alongside the occultism of the golden dawn. so in the 70s we get midcentury medieval but also cari.institute/aesthetics/gay- and they go together more than people think (plus another big era of occultism)

if we get another iteration, i'm hoping we see people experimenting not just with tasteful use of fun fonts for headings but also boldness with visual density

a page from the kelmscott chaucer. characteristically, it's got very large margins but they are filled with an intricate floral design; there's a lot of ink on the page

the biggest thing I hope comes through specifically from the 70s part is the DIY energy, like mimeographed RPG materials. the best example i have to mind is not from the 70s, it's ritualdust.com/works/illustrat
