Wow, I don't remember what it was but I definitely didn't get this much traffic the first time I did a poll.

I ran a computer shop for 12 years and reinstalling MicroShit kept it going. Thus, I will never go back.

I was mostly playing with the poll out of curiosity but it looks like we lean on some kind of Linux here. I'd hate to see what one of those corporate systems would see, πŸ˜‚

This has been a fun little question and kinda not surprising but it makes me think of why some people are turned off by the ActivityPub... I'd bet Microvirus users are the ones most confused with how much it reminds me of what the Internet was before the corporations took over.

@bob

To me, the Fediverse has FidoNet energy.

@vor

Wow, haven't heard of FidoNet in years πŸ˜‚ flashbacks to the BBS days πŸ₯³

@bob yeah the results almostttt surprised me, except ive kind of been coming to the realization that mastodon users in general are a little bit tech-braver. meaning, the fediverse will always live on but will always be alternative. never dying, never in threat, but not popular lol. and hey, i dont mind that myself.

@benda

My hope is enough people remember what it like before the corporate take over 🀞 😁

@bob you are such a pessimism...

I'm old. I ran a BBS back in the 90's. Oh, if only the simple days lasted ... πŸ˜‚

@bob maybe they'll come back. in case of societal collapse, the one think I fondly assume it's the Internet will die. we'll be hoarding busted up electronics and up cycling . mailing each other zip discs.

πŸ˜‚ Our group has a plan for a Tiny House village and we might not have Internet but we will have intrAnet 🀣 that is basically a private Internet where our group can do most things without the world wide web.

@bob @benda I didn't run one, but my parents had comments about our suddenly soaring phone bills after I got a modem.
