I found England’s least believable address.

@overholt I’ve driven through Great Snoring numerous times.

It is advisable though to take a short break when you feel tired at the steering wheel.

@petes_bread_eqn_xls Exactly what I was thinking of when I learned of Fakenham. I was so excited that there turned out to be a 123 Fakenham Road to boot.

I dunno, people keep telling me that Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch is a real place in Wales and I have yet to be convinced.

@overholt Almost as funny as 6969 Cool Steet in Weedsport NY

@overholt no, that’s the only real place in England.

@overholt also, where does fakenham road connect to?

well, The Street of course

a map showing how fakenham road leads to the street. the map also looks glitched for some reason

@overholt Not sure if it's unbelievable, or on the contrary, rather believable, but there's the Jane Austen Centre on Gay Street Bath.

@haitchfive

@overholt (which, by the way, sits right next to Mary Shelley's)

@overholt

This is delightful. I needed this in my life today.

@overholt
My favourite is the South Yorkshire Police Headquarters on Letsby Avenue 🙂

Satellite view of the South Yorkshire Police station, and the street name is Letsby Avenue

@overholt I would like to see an episode of Midsomer Murders set in Great Snoring

llewelly

@overholt but that's totally believable; the real Hamm is in Germany, of course.

Matt Mascarenhas

@overholt Oof, I wonder if they'd tried to make the postcode end 0MG!

Griz, Some Guy on Mastodon

@overholt Wonder if the person who lives there has the email of noreply@example.co.uk ...

@overholt Imagine needing to get an ambulance there when uncle Ligma's alien hand syndrome is flaring up.

@overholt I'm personally a fan of 1 1/2a Whip-Ma-Whop-Ma-Gate, Shambles, York.

Whip-Ma-Whop-Ma-Gate only has 2 addresses on it, and they are 1 1/2, and 1 1/2a. One of them is a game shop

Laloofah

@overholt 😁 If this address is in anything other than a sleepy village & located not far from Napton-on-the-Hill, I’m going to be moderately disappointed.

@overholt did you know England's most phallic building lies at the end of Undershaft Lane?

@overholt when I was in college, I had a bunch of people tell me that they didn't believe me when I told them the address of my apartment, because the street number was 69.

@overholt

I quite liked

No. 1½ Whip-Ma-Whop-Ma-Gate

in York. Would love for the fractional number to be a standard part of address validation 🤪

@overholt that's glorious.

I used to live on Ship Street. The amount of times I was hung up on, by taxis or Chinese takeaways in my own town, who thought it was a prank and I said I lived up Shit Street.
